Dive into the exciting world of Phantom Blade Zero, where the developers have shared new insights into its gameplay and development. Set to launch in 2025, Phantom Blade Zero promises a unique gaming experience that you won't want to miss. Let's explore what's in store for fans of this eagerly anticipated title.
Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates
Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options
Phantom Blade Zero is setting itself apart from the Soulslike genre by introducing four difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move addresses the fanbase's initial comparisons to Soulslike games, which are known for their relentless difficulty and lack of adjustable settings.
Game Director Soulframe clarified this distinction in a tweet following the game's feature at Summer Game Fest 2024, stating, "making another soulslike was never part of the plan. We want combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating." While Phantom Blade Zero does draw inspiration from Soulslike games in terms of its multi-layered maps and exploration elements, Soulframe emphasized that "the similarities stop there." He described the game as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending high-octane hack-and-slash action with expansive world exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Phantom Blade Zero offers a rich array of gameplay features, including over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with distinct combat effects. Players can expect a main story playthrough lasting 20-30 hours, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.
Boss fights in the game are structured in at least two phases, with a unique mechanic allowing players to resume from the second phase if they die, avoiding the need to repeat the first. A new mode called "Li Wulin" challenges players to fight previously defeated bosses, unlocking hidden bosses as they progress. Additionally, the game includes a mechanic that influences its ending, though details on how this works and the number of alternate endings are yet to be revealed.
