Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Hits 114K Players, Faces Performance Bugs

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has exploded onto Steam with over 114,000 concurrent players, marking one of the most impressive launches for a non-FromSoftware Soulslike title to date.

Currently ranking as the eighth most-played game on Steam by concurrent player count, it shattered the 100K player milestone with 114,132 peak concurrents in its first 24 hours. To put this in perspective (via SteamDB data), Lies of P topped out around 30,000 players, Lords of the Fallen reached 43,075, and The First Berserker: Khazan barely crossed 33,000.

While concurrent numbers don't tell the full story - especially without console player data - they certainly suggest a strong initial reception for this Ming Dynasty-inspired action RPG.

Beneath the surface of this launch success lies significant turbulence. The game initially tanked with 'overwhelming negative' Steam reviews before climbing to 'mostly negative', with players complaining about "unplayable performance", a "wooden protagonist", and "broken combat mechanics". Currently, only 21% of its 6,500+ Steam reviews are positive.

"I desperately wanted to love this game," wrote one frustrated player. "After pushing through technical issues, I found glimmers of great combat during the tutorial boss. But constant stuttering and frame drops made continuing impossible - this needs serious optimization patches."

"Another classic UE5 performance gamble that didn't pay off," added another reviewer. "The devs should release a demo so players can test their rigs before purchasing."

Not all experiences have been negative. "Runs buttery smooth on my setup with zero crashes," reported a satisfied customer. "Many complaints stem from players trying to run this on potato PCs without proper optimization."

Set in the collapsing Ming Dynasty's Shu region, Wuchang casts players as a feather-plagued warrior unraveling supernatural mysteries amidst political chaos. IGN's 8/10 review praised its "excellent combat, brilliant level design, and terrifying bosses", while noting occasional difficulty spikes and "cheap ambush tactics".

The game launched July 24, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam/Epic), with day-one Game Pass availability for Ultimate subscribers adding significant accessibility.
